Interview with Mr Anderson

Interview with Mr Anderson & Miss Freeman

Obviously plastic pollution is a very important matter in the world & Mr Anderson, our principal agrees, so we caught up with him & Youth Worker Miss Freeman to hear their opinions on plastic pollution.

Mr Anderson interview:

Simeon: What is your overall opinion on plastic pollution?

Mr Anderson: People are becoming over reliant on plastic. We over use it every day, so that most people now are detached from what happens to it afterwards.

The importance of Blue Planet II has allowed a useful global platform, where perhaps a more mundane platform, wouldn’t have worked so well.

Simeon: If you were able to, what would you do to stop the pollution caused by plastic in this school?

Mr Anderson: We are going to use the local authority who will do a survey about our uses of plastic. Most fundamental will be the recycling – initially around plastic bottles. This site uses a vast number, which we are happy to deal with. It comes with cost of course. Plastic bottles are an easy/quick win with a quite big impact. We will visit a local primary school, which have looked at the way food is served. I am also intrigued by the idea of refilling water bottles. In an ideal world, we would all have refillable bottles. We do not have enough fountains yet, which is a big investment to do with plumbing & building facilities. We are bidding for money from central government, so that we can look at how our food is served & remodelling the food area.

Simeon: How would you stop people from using too much plastic?

Mr Anderson:  Making people aware of alternatives. For example, bringing in a reusable bottle instead of buying one each lunchtime. How can we be in a situation where coffee cups still have plastic lining. We can send people to space, but not remove this. It is nonsense. There needs to be more investment in recycling. Stuff being sent to other countries is silly. Solutions need to be affordable. We need to educate this generation so that we can inform future generations.

At this point, we had to go to our next lesson, so the interview concluded.

Interview with English teacher Miss Duncan
Later on we caught up with Miss Duncan, who led the collection of plastic in our school earlier this week.
Gabriel: What do you think of Plastic Pollution?

Miss Duncan: I think Plastic Pollution is the biggest problem we face and we are finally starting to realise how much it damages the environment, oceans and health.

Gabriel: What do you do to stop plastic pollution?

Miss Duncan: I reuse my lunchbox and also have a non-plastic water bottle. I don’t buy the plastic soap hand washes; I just use a bar of soap. When you start looking around you realise how much unnecessary plastic we use. In school we look at how we can reduce, reuse and recycle.

Gabriel: What ideas do you have to stop Plastic Pollution?

Miss Duncan: We could have a proper recycling bin and reusable bottles. We could make a greenhouse out of plastic bottles. We could create a gardening club and make us environmentally aware.
