Earth Matters: The Air
we Breathe
Co2 in the air
Co2
pollution is a big problem in the 21st century and all of us are polluting
the environment without noticing. Many millions of people are trying to find ways to
stop themselves from polluting their planet such as electric cars and renewable
energy. These are great ways to slow down pollution but they still can’t stop
our environment from being polluted.
How can we help out?
We
can help out in many ways; like conserving energy and using energy efficient
light bulbs. You could volunteer for local energy conservation plans, also try
to cycle or walk to places that are close to your home instead of using cars
all the time.
Why we need the environment
Humans use the ocean for over 70% of their oxygen
consumption. If this 70% of the oxygen
we breathe is contaminated, this could lead to lung cancer, chronic illness and
other deadly illnesses. This means that if you buy more plastic bottles a day,
you are in a way harming your health or another human’s health.
How much Co2 is in the air?
This is also another very important aspect of pollution. If
we don’t know how much Co2 is in the air then we will have no way of knowing
how dangerous this can be for us and our environment, so we won’t know how we can
prevent these devastating numbers. Since the beginning of the world Co2
has been released into the world through volcanoes and animals breathing out Co2. Ever since the discovery of fire we have slowly
been releasing more dangerous gases into our environment. Between 1987 and 2014
we have released a mass of 743 billion tons of Co2. That is a
shocking amount of gasses and we really need to decrease our carbon footprint.
An opinion showing what Bluecoat Wollaton students believe is the aspect of the world in most danger from pollution.
